Technical Films
Our innovative Technical Film Range: Treo-Pore®
Efficient use of energy is the most significant challenge for sustainable mobility and industrial processes in the 21st century. Electrochemical long and short term energy stores such as batteries, double layer capacitors or fuel cells, are a more economical, sustainable answer to the growing power needs of emerging and developed economies alike.
Key components in these cell technologies are separator membranes. Outstanding electrical and mechanical properties, as well as chemical stability and durability are essential characteristics that allow polypropylene to become one of the most used polymers in electro-technical applications.
Based on Treofan’s extensive knowledge and competence in capacitor and voided films, a new economical production technology for BOPP separator membrane films is being developed and scaled up to production. These membranes are made of a nano-structured crystalline polypropylene network film structure with highest porosity and permeability, and provide outstanding properties for the respective application.
PDA
PDA is a new Treo-Pore® separator film for the use in Double Layer Capacitors (DLC’s) based on organic electrolyte solutions. It combines the advantages of high permeability and porosity (> 60%) with high mechanical strength and electrochemical stability. Consequently, DLC’s using Treo-Pore® separator film, PDA show highest durability and extended life time, while maintaining superior electrical performance, low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) and low capacitance loss.
PBP
PBP is a Treo-Pore® microporous separator film for the use in lithium batteries that do not require a safety switch made of pure polypropylene. It combines low resistance to Li-ion flux with chemical stability. Due to its unique mechanical properties, such as balanced tensile strength in length and transversal direction, as well as high puncture resistance, it is highly suitable for large size pouch shaped battery types. Thermal stability up to 130°C makes PBP separator film appropriate for the use in electric vehicle applications.
PBS
PBS is a Treo-Pore® separator film for the use in lithium batteries providing a safety switch in case of thermal runaway caused by a short circuit for example. At temperatures above 130°C an ‘intelligent’ polymer layer activates a shutdown function by closing the pores of the separator and immediately suppresses ion flux in the battery. An additional feature of PBS are the excellent balanced mechanical properties related to the specific BOPP process used.
